Pool Plant Training
By law in the UK, there is no single mandated training certificate for Pool Plant Operations. However, under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and COSHH regulations, employers must ensure staff are fully competent in the tasks that they will have to undertake.
Here at Select Pool services, we have teamed up with JDM Training to offer Institute of Swimming Pool Engineers endorsed Pool Plant Operators courses.
These courses are site specific and are held at the candidate’s home sites so they learn on their own facilities and equipment. The 2 courses which are on offer are 1 day courses, which mean that sites are able to release more staff to be qualified, rather than have to send their team members away to facilities which wouldn’t have the same equipment as what they have in their plant rooms.
These courses have been successfully conducted in schools, hotels and leisure facilities across the UK and in Europe.
We are also able to offer BISHTA Water Hygiene courses for sites that only have hot tubs on them, once again helping reduce the risks which are associated with the running of water based operations.

Why is the correct pool training so important?
Following best practices and meeting the correct industry standards is incredibly important when running a swimming pool and leisure facility. There are so many different aspects of running a pool to take into consideration, such as backwashing, chemical dosing, recalibrations of controllers and minor repairs to system components, everything works together to efficiently run the facility. However, these processes need to be taught by a professional, to prevent anything going wrong and you potentially wasting time and money on breakdowns and downtime.
It’s also a legal requirement for companies operating commercial pools to ensure that the water is safe, clean and hygienic for the public to use. The staff operating the pool also need to be fully trained and competent, so they need to have a comprehensive understanding of swimming pool water treatment and pool plant operations.
